Welcome to our class page. Our class teacher is Mrs Healy.

Welcome to the Summer term.  We hope this letter finds you healthy and adapting to the reality of staying at home for the next few weeks at least.  We have devised a timetable for online home learning for the next two weeks and will continue to provide online home learning for any subsequent weeks, if required.  Please do not worry if you cannot complete all the suggested activities.  We are all doing our best during this difficult and strange time.  We miss you and look forward to being in contact soon.

Children should continue to revise and reinforce rhyming patterns and initial and final letter sounds. The children are continuing to work on the grammar for year 1.

Phonics

Children should revise their phase 3 letter sounds and learn all the phase 5 sounds, as per the handout.  There are a wealth of online resources to help with practicing the letter sounds, blending them to read and segmenting them to spell.

This game comprises of phase 3 flash cards and the children have to read the sound – but it is a race against the clock!!

This game encourages the children to blend sounds together and identity real words and fake words

This is another game that encourages children to blend sounds using phase 5 phonics sounds

This is a fun game that focuses on a sound and encourages children to spell words correctly that contain the sound

The children have also enjoyed having a go at completing the activities on this ninja style phonics game

We will start off the term by using fruit and vegetables to make a portrait in the style of Arcimboldo, and can use up the fruit by making fruit salads. Keep talking to your children about the importance of hand washing, especially before preparing and eating food. Children should be shown how to use knives safely to cut the fruit. Later, in Art, we will move away from portraits and learn about still life and landscape paintings. The children will be creating Art in these styles. Please find the resources for your art resources on our home learning page.

In Design Technology we will be making  our own toys, using junk modelling objects. Any donations of cardboard boxes etc will be appreciated to help us with this!

In music this term we will be using our senses to hear and make sounds. We will also be using our bodies as instruments.

De Bono’s Six Thinking Hats

We will be continuing to learn about De Bono’s Six Thinking Hats.  We are already using the Red Hat (feelings, intuition), Yellow Hat (positive thinking) and White Hat (information), and will be adding the Green and Black Hats this term (creativity and problem solving). The children enjoy “wearing” the hats and learning to use these methods to develop their thinking.

Habits of Mind

The Habits of Mind are a collection of 16 thinking dispositions designed to help children develop their critical and creative thinking skills. Every week children are taught to use a different ‘habit of mind’ to help with their thinking and apply this to their work.

Visual Maps

The children are now using visual tools in all areas of their learning. These tools help the children map out their ideas and organize their thinking.

If you have any questions please feel free to come and see me after school.
