MUSIC PROGRESSION OF SKILLS
MUSIC ROAD MAP
Music is incorporated in a variety of ways at St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School.
Apart from the National Curriculum of Music taught in class lessons, the children also experience music through hymn practice, nativity plays, musical productions, junior choir, recorder lessons, and singing workshops such as the Enfield Sings workshops.
Children have the opportunity to receive specialist piano, keyboard, guitar, violin, cello, flute, clarinet, trumpet and ukele lessons. This can be done through the Enfield Music Service via their website: https://traded.enfield.gov.uk/musicstore
Year 3 receive whole class recorder lessons for two terms by a specialist teacher provided by the Enfield Music Service. They will be developing their musical skills through learning the instrument and give performances to their parents. We encourage parents to sign up with the Enfield Music Service when all the workshop sessions have finished so that their children can continue learning the recorder or another instrument into the following year and beyond.
Year 5 will be involved in the Enfield Sings workshops in the spring term. A specialist teacher will teach them how to warm up their voices by doing specific singing exercises. The pupils will learn songs in a variety of styles and from different cultures. A performance will be given to the parents at the end of the spring term.
